Kevin Scott Richardson was born on October 3rd, 1971 in Lexington, Kentucky. The third son of Jerald and Ann Richardson.
Kevin, his parents and his siblings spend a great time on the 10 hectares farm. The kids grew up with a lot of animals, horses for example.
Even Ann planted her own vegetables in the backyard. Kevin often was on the way in nature with his brothers and his cousin Brian.
At the age of 4 he was already able to go on horesback.
Pilot was Kevin's dream job since childhood. His Grandfather had a pilot's license and took him with for sightseeing flights in his cessna.
Someday mother Ann bought a piano whereby Kevin discovered his passion for it. Indeed he couldn't read music but he played the TOP 40 rapidly.
At the age of 9 Kevin moved first time with his parents to a small city called Irvine, at the Kentucky hills. His fahter Jerald should manage a youthcamp there. Also Kevin and his brother Tim took over some responsible functions, clean dorm rooms, chop wood, go on excursions with children for example.
Additionally Kevin completed a course for "youth mountain guide".
Kevin played in the footballteam at school. His brothers often knocked him around - sometimes it wasn't fun anymore but Kevin says about himself that these physical arguments made him stronger and showed him how to keep a level head.
Furthermore he played basketball and first tryings at boxing.
He also sung in the church choir and in two hobby-bands. He excanged his dream job pilot with singer shortly.
Kevin got his dancing from his parents because the won a few cups. Singing came into his grandmother.
Kevin spend his spare time with his best friend Keith McDuffy (called Trey D., Kevs former bodyguard), his brother or his cousin Brian.
After Highschool graduating Kevin earned money by modeling for an established agency.
At the age of 17 he found out about his father had cancer.
On August 26th, 1991 he suffered the biggest blow of fate in his life. His father Jerald died of cancer after two years vain therapy. Kevin says that it's a pity that his father missed the success of him and the Backstreet Boys.
Shortly after his loss another deep hit: his former girlfriend Beth broke up. Kevin was finished, he already bought the wedding rings. Beth was the woman he wanted to marry. His best friend Trey D. furthered him during that bad time. He also tried to deflect himself with calisthenics and music.
For financing his apartment Kevin worked in Disneyworld (Orlando, FL) as "Aladin" and "Ninja Turtle" at age 19.
He also met his later wife Kristin first time. She acted "Belle" in "The Beauty And The Beast".
Kev was still dreaming of the big carreer and went to countless castings and interviews. At one of these castings he met "New Kids on the Block" manager Johnny Wright, who was working with Lou Perlman. Johnny knew about Lou's plan for forming a boyband. So he made both known. Finally he was pictured by Nick, AJ and Howie.
The boyband should consist of five members - Kevin nominated his cousin Brian, the church choir singer, and was permitted to call him. One day later on April 20, 1993 the Backstreet Boys, an american Boysgroup of JIVE Records, were founded in Orlando, FL.
Kevin dedicated the first album "Backstreet Boys" to his father and wrote into the booklet:
„If I can be half the man you were as a father, a husband and as a friend, then I will consider myself to be successful. I miss you Dad. I dedicate this album to my father Jerald Wayne Richardson .“
The official break-up with Lou Perlman and the record label happened on the initiative of Kevin. The Backstreet Boys signed a record deal at "the firm" where they got more primal voice and financial conditions as well.
Kevin is still a nature based man and because of that he formed an organisation called: "Just Within Reach". His father's initials "JWR" inspired the title for Kevin's former charity.
On June 17th, 2000 he married the actress Kristin Kay Willits.
In 2002, he played the role of "Billy Flynn" in the Broadway production of "Chicago".
Kevin officially left the band on June 23, 2006:
"After 13 years of what can only be described as a dream come true, I have decided that it is time to leave the Backstreet Boys. It was a very tough decision for me but one that was necessary in order to move on with the next chapter of my life. Howard, Brian, Alex and Nick will always be my little brothers and have my utmost love and support. I would like to thank the Backstreet fans for all the beautiful memories we have shared together and look forward to including you in the next phase of my life. I wish my brothers continued success and look forward to their new album."
The Backstreet Boys recorded their first album as a quartet.
On November 14, 2006, he came back to New York City with many Chicago Alumni for the 10th Anniversary for Chicago. After that from late November 2006 - December 3, 2006 he went to Toronto to play Billy Flynn. From February 4, 2007 - March 4, 2007 he went to do Chicago in Japan, for the first time.
On July 3, 2007 - 4:56 AM - the first child of Kevin and Kristin was born. It's a boy called "Mason".
During the Los Angeles date of the Backstreet Boys' Unbreakable Tour, as a surprise, he turned up on stage to deafening screams and sang "Shape of my Heart" with the rest of the boys.
Kevin composed the soundtrack of the animated movie "The Spirit Bear".
